I have discovered a new hobby in the kitchen. I love to find copy cat recipes for well known commercial sauces and/or spices. It is so much cheaper to make a yummy meal at home that mimics a restaurant than it is to actually go to the restaurant.
Today I want to share with you the greatest find of them all. I searched and scoured the Internet for this recipe. You would think that restaurant owners guard this recipe like the Coke recipe by how tight lipped they are about it. But, I just knew that someone out there must have decoded it.
It is the Japanese Steakhouse Shrimp Sauce. Well, that is what we call it. We also call it “Yummy Yummy Good on Everything Sauce.” Some people call it White Sauce or Sakura Sauce. After months of searching I found THE recipe here. I take no credit for this recipe and if you want someone to thank go to his website and say thanks or even make a donation. I just wanted to share my absolute glee for finding this recipe.
I know you are anxious…Here it is!

Cast of Characters
Ingredients:
1-1/4 cup Hellman’s Mayonaise (DO NOT substitute another mayo)
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon tomato paste (DO NOT substitute ketchup)
1 Tablespoon melted butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon sugar (oops…forgot to put sugar in the picture)
1/4 teaspoon paprika
a couple small dashes of cayenne pepper

Mixing in all the spices
Put all the ingredients into a bowl and whisk until it is very well blended.

Ready for some chilling time
Put into a container (I like a container that allows for easy pouring) and refrigerate overnight. This is crucial. The sauce must have those hours for all the flavors to mix, mingle, and get to know each other.
Bring to room temperature before serving.

So Good on White Rice
We put this all over our fried rice and it also good on plain white rice. I often do the white rice for lunch because it is so easy.
Go Ahead and thank the nice fellow over at Japanese Steakhouse White Sauce.
